Laser Kittens has successfully funded! Thank you so much to everyone who contributed. We're celebrating tonight, but stay tuned for updates on our progress, as well as your opportunity to add additional cards or plushies to your order.

Plushies! Cards! Woo!
about 8 years ago – Tue, Mar 01, 2016 at 07:19:20 AM

We're so excited that Laser Kittens is about to become a reality! Just a few quick reminders:

We hit our last stretch goal! Bex will be getting the plushies started soon. Rather than complicate things with a bunch of new pledge levels at the last minute, we will make the plushies available through our pledge manager after the campaign ends, so you can add them to your order then.

Here are some first drafts of the art for a couple of the kitten cards. We're super excited about these!

If you pledged to get a book, you can upgrade to the "+ Cards" version of your pledge level to add two decks of kitten cards. Everyone at the ZOO ZOO ZOO and WHO WHO WHO levels will automatically get two decks of cards for no extra charge.

Speaking of WHO WHO WHO and ZOO ZOO ZOO, we still have slots open if you'd like to get yourself or your cat immortalized as an NPC in Laser Kittens. If you backed at that level, we'll be sending out a survey after the campaign ends. Start composing your two-sentence NPC descriptions!

If you don't make it back to add cards to your pledge before the campaign ends, or if you want a different number of cards than the pledge levels allow, you'll be able to add decks through the pledge manager afterward.

Pew pew pew! We love you all and can't wait to send Laser Kittens to everyone.

Kitten Cards are here!
about 8 years ago – Tue, Mar 01, 2016 at 01:46:12 AM

You did it! I apologize for posting a second update so soon after the last one, but that was quick! We hit the stretch goal, and now Kitten Cards designed by Rori de Rien will be part of Laser Kittens.

We've created three new pledge levels -- one to get a single deck of Kitten Cards and nothing else, as well as levels to add two decks to a MEW MEW MEW (pdf) or PEW PEW PEW (physical book) level pledge. Everyone pledging at the WHO WHO WHO or ZOO ZOO ZOO levels will automatically get two decks of cards added to their rewards for no extra charge.

(Just a note -- I was in such a rush to get the new pledge levels posted that I forgot to edit the text of the PEW PEW PEW + Cards pledge level. That level includes the softcover rulebook and two decks of Kitten Cards. Unfortunately I can't edit a pledge level once someone has chosen it -- sorry!)

Remember that we will also have more decks available as add-ons through our pledge manager after the campaign ends, so if you want to get more than two decks you will be able to do so.

Keep sharing the campaign, and let's see what we can do in our last week! Remember that you can pledge for just a deck of cards now, so if you have a friend who loves kittens but isn't into roleplaying games, they could pick up a deck for playing poker, bridge, or any other game that uses a standard 54-card deck.

Kitten Cards are almost here!
about 8 years ago – Wed, Feb 24, 2016 at 06:09:33 PM

We know the kitten cards have been one of the most-anticipated parts of this campaign. After looking over our budget and the success of Laser Kittens so far, we've decided that we can make these cards happen sooner than originally planned. So we've dropped the kitten card stretch goal to $6500. That's less than $200 from our current funding level, so we hope we can make that happen in the next day or two.

When we hit the cards funding level, we'll make them available in two ways:

1. We'll create some new pledge levels -- you'll be able to pledge for a single deck, the game PDF plus two decks, or the physical book plus two decks. (Remember, it requires two decks to play Laser Kittens).

2. We'll allow you to add decks of cards to your order through our pledge manager after the campaign ends. So don't worry if you miss out on upping your pledge once the goal is met -- you'll still be able to get your cards!

While we've got your attention: for anyone who backed at the "WHO WHO WHO" or "ZOO ZOO ZOO" level, we'll be sending out a survey shortly after the campaign ends to collect your information for your custom NPC. So start thinking about what you want your NPC to be, and (for ZOO pledges) finding a great picture of your cat.

And for everyone else -- we still have some WHO and ZOO slots open, so consider bumping up your pledge so that you or your cat can become a permanent part of the world of Laser Kittens!

Onward to Kitten Cards!
about 8 years ago – Tue, Feb 23, 2016 at 03:48:41 PM

We're super excited to have hit our first stretch goal. Now the physical books will all be printed in full color. Next we move on to the big one: Kitten Cards!

We need another $1500 to bring you these decks of kitten-themed playing cards, so keep sharing the campaign with all of your friends. When we hit this goal, we'll create a couple new pledge levels so that you can add a pair of kitten decks to your pledge (it takes two decks to play Laser Kittens), as well as a level for anyone who just wants a single kitten deck.

Each kitten deck is a standard 54-card poker deck, for playing all of your favorite card games. Every card will have a unique kitten illustration on it. The suits will all be slightly different as well -- e.g. instead of clubs, you'll get toe beans.

The art for the kitten cards will be done by the fabulous Rori of RoriComics. You can check out her art at her tumblr. Here's a sample of some recent cats she's drawn:

And remember to keep using the hashtag #LaserKittens to tweet or FB post your vote for your favorite quickstart scenario -- we'll tally the votes and release the next one when we hit 200 backers!
